Conference Follow Up

Ok, it was rad to watch conference but I missed the Priesthood session because of work, how do I watch it now? Well look no further then the LDS Video Podcast Channel on Roku. Rather then sitting in front of my computer I can just watch it on TV while sitting in front of my Laptop. Check it out if you are a Roku user.
On a side tech note, after having a successful internet install at my building, I’ve been asked to begin working on one other building in our stake and maybe fixing the set up at the stake center. weeeeeee. . .
Conference on Roku

Yes I love my Roku, and its gotten better with the upcoming Mormon Channel. I’ve been 1 of just under 200 people who are testing out the Alpha version of the Mormon Channel for Roku and it’s been very cool. Since I no longer have DirecTV I had 2 choices: go watch conference at the church or sit in front of my computer… I now get to choose sitting on my couch in my Sunday clothes and enjoy conference from my Roku. Ok, I don’t watch conference in my Sunday cloths, since it’s been warm it’s more like my shorts and T-shirt. But I’ve told you a bit too much about my dressing habits.
The Mormon Channel is still in development but they were able to get it ready enough to stream conference using the stream that was already set up for the iPad. Yes thats right if you have an iPad you can sit on your toilet and watch conference, in your Sunday best…
If the Mormon Channel shapes up to be what I think is should be, we would have access to past conferences, and any video the church has ever produced (fingers crossed). Thus making it a worth while idea to put Roku’s in the buildings that have High Speed internet in them. It would be super easy to lock them down enough that only the church channel is available. The Lord has blessed us with some marvelous technology, I can’t wait to use it!
A little more self reliant

This is not tech based but I wanted to share it anyway. My family has tried to do a garden for the last few years, so this year we stepped it up a little. Last year an animal came along and ate the tops off all my plants, so this year I’ve added fencing to my garden, it was about $25 for fence and stakes. I’ve also added ground cover to prevent weeds. We planted green beans, tomatoes, peppers, corn, broccoli, onions, carrots, strawberries and a couple types of melon. Also in order to do the garden a little more GREEN, I collected just over 50 gallons of rain water to use on the garden. I’ve found that gardening can be done just about anywhere. I’ve created a planter out of a milk crate, and in a nearly useless space in my front yard.
Mormon Channel and Roku

I’ve seen the Alpha! Mormon Channel for Roku is in the works. They are striving to make it possible to stream conference!
Looks too like there may be more content available also. As far as I can tell they are trying to get the channel ready by April conference, keep your fingers crossed all you LDS Roku users!!! Stay tuned I’ll keep you posted!
Western Digital Media Player

Genealogical Research and Tech

There is a reason we have so much technology, because it can be used to forward the Gospel. Genealogical research is something that is strongly encouraged in the church, and we are given great tools to make it easy. In a recent Church News article, Ryan Morgenegg wrote that FamilySearch.org receives more than 10 million hits a day, and has had 15 Billion since it’s launch. Have any of those hits been yours? Blue and Gold

Tonight is our Wards Blue and Gold dinner. Its an exciting time for the boys. I am my Wards 11 Scout Master, so tonight I get a new boy. We have the bridge all set up and I’m looking forward to getting a new scout. My Ward is small and my last 11 year old scout turned 12 last week so once again I’ll have 1 Scout. So Dad’s, are any of you Scout leaders in your Ward? What activities do you do and do you find the boys enjoy most? Leave a comment!

The LDS Tech Conference is coming up. March 31 – April 1, 2011. Riverton Office Building. Riverton, Utah. For all you Utah folk its close to you! For us here in California and other parts of the world we just get to imagine what fun you will have!
